Why when I boot up my computer get so slow---Windows 9.x

There are some reasons:

1.    The Memory isn't enough. For Windows 95/98, there must be 32MB in Memory at least.

2.    The Data Transfer Rate is so slow. This situation often occurs in installing the newest Operating System in the "oldest" computer. (Because the capacity of hard disk is small, the data transfer rate is slow; but the capacity of Operating System is too big etc.) Or it's a long time to do a Defragment.

3.    You didn't use the Virtual Memory. Or the spare capacity of hard disk isn't enough for the Virtual Memory. The Virtual Memory needs 20MB to 40MB space to store the files temporarily at least.

4.    The amount of Font is more than the amount what the system could accept. If the amount of Font has been installed over 850 types, the system will get slowly. Usually, if you didn't want your Operating System getting so slow, the amount of Font are 600 to 700 at most. Please delete the Font which never has been used.

5.    The driver of network card. There are drivers which will influence the booting of Operating System. Please check whether the settings are wrong or not. (For example, IRQ DMA etc.) And then please check whether has other program impact with the driver of network card or not. Or, maybe you install a wrong driver with this network card. Further more, the version of driver is low or the version couldn't match the Operating System will also influence the speed of booting.

6.    There are a large number of programs in the System Tray. The resident program which you often use will be put in the System Tray; you should put out some resident programs which you seldom use.

You loaded the driver of real mode, the resident program and the anti-virus program in Dos in your Config.sys and Autoexec.bat. Please don't load anything into Autoexec.bat and Config.sys except the drivers which the equipment must load in DOS. (The equipment contains the CD-ROM, SCSI card, network card, voice card etc). And please be sure loading the drivers for Windows as possibly. Further more, for Windows 9.x, it didn't need the Config.sys or Autoexec.bat, except you have a driver or the resident program which must be loaded in DOS.
